On Saturday morning we were invited to take a tour of the Melbury Vale WInery, nestled in the valley just south of Shaftesbury. Greeted by Clare part of the brother and sister duo behind this Dorset vineyard and her dog Mowgli, we discovered more about the site and their produce and business diversification. The pair brought the site at Cann Bridge in 2003 and have since developed it into a thriving business which includes a distillery, glamping pods and meeting venue.
The sustainable site produces wines, liqueurs, brandy, cider and some bubbly and more recently batches of hand sanitiser. As a result of our business, we are delighted to announce that the VIneyard has agreed to list their products on both Designed in Dorset website and our Local Shops sister site.
As with any rural business there is a need to diversify and this was a perfect example of putting every asset to work. A group of glamping barrels sits amongst the vines which are very neat and have stunning views across the valley. There is also a lovely spot for some lunch in the trees and a high-end meeting room in the distillery for presentations. Of course, things are up in the air at the moment but they have plans to make the site accessible for visitors during lockdown. With such a large site there is opportunity aplenty. We look forward to visiting the site again soon.
