Unique recycled fishing net mirrors. No. 16/100 ‘Seaweed’, from the limited edition 'Lulworth Cove' series. An original design, measuring approximately 15 inches / 38cm in diameter. More colourways are available – please contact me for images of other current pieces.
Inspired by the shape of beautiful Lulworth Cove, a picturesque natural harbour on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, the offset circle echoes the circular shape of the landmark.
Fishing net salvage, landing nets and fishing ropes (‘ghost nets’ which continue to ‘fish’ long after they become lost or discarded) have been recycled to create this handmade fibre art mirror. A donation of 10% from the sale of this piece will be made to the Marine Conservation Society. Donation receipts feature regularly on my Facebook account and in my Instagram stories (both @driftwoodfish).
The nets have all been gathered along our local beaches – painstakingly de-tangled, washed, dried, sorted and finally carefully assembled. The mirror itself is a sturdy glass mirror. Many of the Lulworth Cove mirrors have shipped internationally.
Every piece is individual in pattern and colour, and each is numbered, stamped and signed by Rachel with a handwritten label bearing details of its provenance. The mirror has a metal D ring attached on the reverse for hanging. It will be sent very carefully packaged, tracked and insured via Royal Mail, in a strong protective box with recycled packaging.
